Old Folx, Ladders and Tweety Bird Slippers: The Hold My Beer Edition

Image
Hello, my Lovelies! Yes, I know. It's been almost three hundred years; about four months to be exact, since I've last blogged. I had a book release scheduled for December 17th and was already having problems, but then I got sidetracked. I have a good reason, tho. It's a doctor's note reason, actually. You see, I live in an apartment on the fourth floor. Because I'm on the top level, I have vaulted ceilings. When I need to go up high, I have a four step ladder but I call it a three step; on account I only go as high as the third step. I seldom use this ladder because I have a two-step stepping ladder that I use when I'm getting stuff off the top shelf.  I'm a shortcake (5'4), which is kind of average but most consider that short. This is my go-to ladder for almost everything so I always grab it. Anyhoo, I have a sliding patio door with those long, ugly blinds. I actually really dislike looking at them, so when I moved in, I hung curtains. ...

Telling The World You're Real When You're Really Fake. Stop It Because You Aint Fooling Nobody

Hello My Lovelies! Yes, I know...it's been AGES!!! I've had so many health issues this year that it took up most of my time. I also have never ending drama in the work place to deal with and while I'm no closer to a resolution on it, I have found some common ground to stand on. I'm thankful for that. The fact that I didn't have a psychotic break was refreshing. Held it together - yay me! Anyhoo, I feel the need to reiterate something that's been renting space in my head as of late - work place friends. I had an interesting discussion with some friends over the weekend; you know...after my Star Wars binge out at the local multiplex. You're not a nerd if you see it just once! No, I wanted to get my friends' opinion of some things. Then I had an issue (when am I ever  NOT in some sassafrassing drama??) with someone at work when she called us "friends." I immediately said, no, we're not; we're "frienemies." I know...

Black Women...and Cake: Bringing The Pain, One Chocolate Slice at a Time

Image
Let's have this discussion again. I don't think ya heard me the first time. We'll try it in a different way...because I'm extra like that. Hello, My Lovelies! This is a cake. It’s a very beautiful chocolate cake and probably very delicious. “ We ” didn’t get a piece. There’s a reason for that: “ We ” were too busy being extra and ratchet. Let me explain. Imagine, if you will: Ten ladies at a round table – five ladies on one side, and five on the other side: a dark skinned lady, light skinned lady with long, wavy hair, a lady with a weave, a lady with an afro and a lady with a perm. And then there’s that beautiful cake in front of them. It’s a fairly large chocolate cake with three layers and ten pieces are already cut, just waiting to be served. This is how this conversation went: One of the ladies leans in closer to the lady with the weave and delicately whispers, “you know, the dark skinned lady is going after your job.”  T...

Going To Concerts In The 70's, Which Explains Why I Have Issues Today

Hello, my Lovelies! As of February 9th, Year 2016 is 40 days old, and we've had some of our best and brightest leave us way too soon, some before last year's end: Natalie Cole, Lemmy Kilmister (December 31, 2015) Willie Guest (Pips - December 24, 2015)  Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots - December 3, 2015) David Bowe (January 10, 2016) Glenn Frye (January 18, 2016) Paul Kanter (Jefferson Airplane - January 28, 2016) Alan Rickman (omg! January 14, 2016) Abe Vigoda (if he's gone, there's no hope for the rest of us. I hate to tell you but we're all gonna DIE! January 26, 2016) ...and sadly, Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire (February 3, 2016). EWF was a huge part of my childhood in the 70's and I was so sad to see someone who was like an old friend saying hello through his music drift out of this plane of existence. We really need people like him in this harsh, cruel world. It feels a lot colder without him. Here's what bakes ...
