The Gift of Sanity: Your Cheetah Diva's Year in Review

Image
Hello my Lovelies! It's that magical time of the year; you know...where I love saying, "I'll go into the new year with a renewed sense of optimism and hope that this year will be the best year ever!" You know what happens - the year ends up sucking rotted monkey butt. Well, this year was no different. I went into 2014 happy that things at the j.o.b. that pays the bills were going to get better. They didn't. I went into the year hoping to have my trilogy finally published. I didn't (one book short). I tried to rally the troops for the "We're Not Bitches" thingy. Well, you know... women. I went into the year hoping to be a little bit smaller. I really didn't accomplish that one. Hell, I didn't even come close! I did manage to accomplish a lot, though. While I didn't finish my trilogy this year, I did publish two books, I made it to the Miami Boat Show despite the "Two Inch Blizzard of the Deep and...

Reflections Of You - My Tribute to Mrs. Sabrina Leon Davis

Image
Heart-to-heart time, my Lovelies. When you were young, you were so carefree, you had no worries, and the future was for old farts like your parents. You did cartwheels, played freeze tag, played double dutch, ate junk food until you got sick, played hide & seek, and watched cartoons Saturday morning. In the 70’s, a dollar got you a bag of Doritos, a Pepsi, a Snickers, a SuzyQ, and the leftover was penny candy. The weekends were those magical days when you weren’t chained to a desk in Ms. Richardson’s class for the five days during the week that ruined your life. The summer was freedom from the bondage of education, and you celebrated by going to the pool, cruising the park, Skate King, Six Flags, or otherwise moped around complaining about there’s nothing to do and nothing to watch. You had to be careful about telling your parents you had nothing to do; they’d FIND you something to do!  Having a boyfriend meant that the little punk up the street bought you candy,...

For The Fellas! Your Skanky Selfies and Boudoir Pictures: Why You Should Keep Your Damn Clothes On And Your Shit To Yourselves

Ladies, let's chat. Has this happened to you? You're web chatting with a guy, or on Instagram, Skype, Facebook, Tumblr, or Reddit, and he's telling you that he has his life on point; has told you what he does for a living, how banging his life is, how happy he is, and all he needs is that perfect woman at his side.  At this point, if you're a young gal in your early to late 20's, the chance that you think this is the man for you is pretty high. You're young, inexperienced at some things, and tend to view the world with a special kind of naivete. You think he's cute and honest. That's not necessarily a bad thing, mind you. The world is in need of fantasy, wonder, and an innocence it hasn't seen since before Man learned to do more with that third leg besides pee on a tree. Us older gals are a little bit more worldly. We've seen the world in all of its heMan glory. We know better. Young gals:  "You're making money, your li...

The Release of Kurai Utopia Book Two: Ignition

Image
Hello my Lovelies! On September 1, 2014, I finally released the second book in the 'Kurai Utopia" Trilogy entitled, "Ignition."  The book picks up from where the last book ended; Katashi and Hikari getting all hot and heavy in the interrogation room at the Capitol after he seeks her help in uncovering the plot against him. As she prepares for the space cruise, Hikari wrestles with her feelings for Katashi, unaware that he's doing the same thing. She goes on the cruise, meets up with Kenshin and Hyori, and hilarity ensues. There's one very tense near rape moment, but our girl manages to come out on top and gets the tiger demon, Bai Hu, under control...sort of. On the other side of the coin, Yoshio, the gentle-natured Minister of Health, Labor and Benevolent Welfare (HLBW) is so desperate to keep his beloved Haruna with him for all time, he joins a few unsavory fellows and inadvertently finds himself in a terrible predicament that could get him and...

The Prodigal Diva Returns Home and Thoughts of Ferguson

Image
Hello my lovelies! It's been ages since the Cheetah Diva has written a blog post. A lot has happened since the luncheon with my co-workers in June, and besides editing the second book, which was published September 1, 2014, the biggest things that happened to me was my journey to my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri in July. It has been awhile since I've been home for an extended visit, and I was only there for about four days, but they were four of the best days I've had in a really long time. I often brag about the cuisine, the sights, and sounds of my City on the River, and this trip was no exception. The past health issues, the stress, and the forward push to have a successful writing career all took back seats to my journey, as I did the over 550 mile drive from ATHell to St. Louis. I was initially apprehensive; I'm not sure why that is. No, I know exactly why - I expected drama. I have that kind of family. We argue, fight, barbecue, play spades, and not neces...

The Sisterfriends Luncheon or "WE'RE BITCHES," Part Deaux...The Aftermath

Hello my Lovelies! It's your Cheetah Diva here with the what's happening in her life and why am I not married to Idris Elba yet. A few weeks or a month ago, I wrote a blog entitled, "WE'RE BITCHES! The Odd Ratchetness of Black Women in the Workplace." It was about the lack of trust that we have with each other in the work place and my desire to see us more unified. One of the things that I suggested was for sistas to get together and have a lunch; have a relaxing afternoon and just enjoy one another. Well, I don't like to talk about it; I'm all about "be about it." I was leery of the idea (because, you know...some situations are just too ratchet for words), but at the end of the day, I can't say I'm "be about it" if I don't. I decided to throw caution to the wind and host a luncheon with the black women - my treat. It's not like I'm a balla, shot caller, but I can shave off a few bucks to invite the w...
