Black Women...and Cake: Bringing The Pain, One Chocolate Slice at a Time

Image
Let's have this discussion again. I don't think ya heard me the first time. We'll try it in a different way...because I'm extra like that. Hello, My Lovelies! This is a cake. It’s a very beautiful chocolate cake and probably very delicious. “ We ” didn’t get a piece. There’s a reason for that: “ We ” were too busy being extra and ratchet. Let me explain. Imagine, if you will: Ten ladies at a round table – five ladies on one side, and five on the other side: a dark skinned lady, light skinned lady with long, wavy hair, a lady with a weave, a lady with an afro and a lady with a perm. And then there’s that beautiful cake in front of them. It’s a fairly large chocolate cake with three layers and ten pieces are already cut, just waiting to be served. This is how this conversation went: One of the ladies leans in closer to the lady with the weave and delicately whispers, “you know, the dark skinned lady is going after your job.”  T...

My Friend, Shannon Blackmon, Was Murdered

This weekend, I found out that a friend, Shannon Blackmon, was murdered. "Suthrn," as I came to know her before I got to know her as "Shannon," was energetic, funny as all out get out, and so beautiful. She had everything going for her. She had this effervescent personality; Shannon could match and even go above and beyond me in telling a funny story and keeping the energy going. She was so passionate about what she believed in and she fought like a warrior. Our favorite thing was talking about "True Blood." She went from being a super fan to hating it like it was a walking sin. That show going off was the worst thing that happened to us. We had nothing else to hate, so she stopped posting about it. What we all failed to realize that the end of the series seemed to usher in a dark cloud that didn't come to its unspeakable conclusion until December 4th, when I found out that she had been murdered. Shannon fell off the grid. She stopped comin...

The Sisterfriends Luncheon or "WE'RE BITCHES," Part Deaux...The Aftermath

Hello my Lovelies! It's your Cheetah Diva here with the what's happening in her life and why am I not married to Idris Elba yet. A few weeks or a month ago, I wrote a blog entitled, "WE'RE BITCHES! The Odd Ratchetness of Black Women in the Workplace." It was about the lack of trust that we have with each other in the work place and my desire to see us more unified. One of the things that I suggested was for sistas to get together and have a lunch; have a relaxing afternoon and just enjoy one another. Well, I don't like to talk about it; I'm all about "be about it." I was leery of the idea (because, you know...some situations are just too ratchet for words), but at the end of the day, I can't say I'm "be about it" if I don't. I decided to throw caution to the wind and host a luncheon with the black women - my treat. It's not like I'm a balla, shot caller, but I can shave off a few bucks to invite the w...

Internet Macks - LET'S DISCUSS!

Disclaimer:  The Cheetah Diva is not now, or will she ever criticize internet booty calls/hook ups, get togethers or those who find love in the vast, endless cyberspace.  This is about the punks who pretend to be honorable but are really just out for the Poosah. Hello my Lovelies! Recently I was hanging out on Facebook with my favorite romance author Cheris Hodges.  She had a discussion going on about the diarrhea that spilled out of Steve Harvey's mouth.  For those of you who haven't followed this issue because you have real lives, somebody named Mimi who's a reality star/player/prop on a show (sorry...don't watch, don't follow, don't care) who has done a porn video featuring her climbing a shower curtain like an orangutan; I guess she wanted to be famous and hoped that it would launch her career (yeah, I know...I laughed too). (side note: Uh, Mimi...black women doing porn - not that big of a deal to the general public. Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes or L...
